The Eagles acquired running back De’Andre Swift from the Detroit Lions in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick. The two teams exchanged 2023 seventh-round picks.
Swift, a former St. Joseph’s Prep star who attended the University of Georgia, will provide the Eagles with dynamic talent in the backfield. Rushed for 1,680 yards, averaging 4.6 yards per carry, with 18 rushing touchdowns in 40 career games (16 starts) at Detroit. He is a proven pass catcher; Swift has 156 receptions for 1,198 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He fumbled six times in his career, just once last season.
Swift, 24, is entering the fourth and final year of her new contract. He joins a running back room that includes third-year Kenneth Cainwell, free-agent addition Rashad Penny, veteran Boston Scott, Trey Sherman and Kennedy Brooks.
Swift’s tenure in Detroit comes to an end shortly after the Lions took running back Jahmir Gibbs in the first round. The Lions signed former Chicago Bears tailback David Montgomery in free agency.

Before Swift was selected in the second round (No. 35) of the 2020 NFL Draft, he told The Inquirer: “[Philadelphia] That’s where I get my mood from, and I can’t help it. Tough mood, I’m a bad boy. I compete, I want to compete and I will not back down from a challenge. It’s all Philly, it’s in me. That’s why I play the way I play.”
