Chris Hemsworth’s hit action franchise “” gets a third adventure. Action star and director Sam Hargrave made the announcement at Netflix’s In Tutum event on Saturday, following the premiere of “Extraction 2” on June 16.
The first two films focus on Black Ops mercenary Tyler Rack (Hemsworth). In the first film, Tyler takes on a mission to save the son of an Indian crime lord, but it brings him to the brink of death. “Extraction 2” Tyler recovers from the mission, but then he decides to embark on another dangerous mission to save the family of a famous Georgian gangster.
Hargrave, who made his directorial debut with “Extraction,” also lends his stunt expertise to the franchise’s second film. The stuntman-turned-director stunned fans by using a single shot for a 21-minute action sequence.
“Extraction 2” was produced by Hemsworth, Hargrave, Patrick Newall, Mike LaRocca, Angela Russo-Odstad, Eric Kiter, Peter Schwerin and Joe and Anthony Russo, aka the Russo Brothers. Executive producers include Benjamin Grayson, Steven Scavelli, Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely and Jake Ast.
The first film was based on the Andy Parks graphic novel “Ciudad” and was adapted by the Parks and Russo brothers. Joe Russo returned for “Extraction 2” and served as screenwriter of the sequel.
The franchise’s first film premiered in April 2020 and at the time was the most-watched original film premiere in Netflix history after reaching 99 million households within its first four weeks of release. It re-entered the top 10 over the Fourth of July weekend, becoming the fourth most-watched streaming film of 2020.
“Extraction” and “Extraction 2” are currently available to stream on Netflix.
