Baseball fans around the world may soon find out which team Shohei Ohtani will play for next season — and Giants fans are certainly waiting with bated breath.
Contract negotiations with Japanese Two-Way Star are entering their final phaseA small selection of MLB teams will meet with Ohtani and his representatives this weekend in Los Angeles, Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith reported Friday, citing industry sources with knowledge of the process.
While San Francisco is considered one of the teams that have pitched in free agency, Odani is said to be unclear as to its current position in the free-agency sweepstakes.

“The San Francisco Giants have long been in love with Ohtani, though it’s unclear where they stand in this sweepstakes,” Basson wrote.
That may not be a bad thing, as negotiations are said to have concluded. The Giants may be stooping to respect Ohtani’s desire for privacy after Passan said last month that the superstar would hold it against the organization if any meetings with teams were leaked.
As MLB Network’s John Morosi made clear during an appearance on “Hot Stove” earlier this week, San Francisco’s desire to sign Ohtani isn’t all that personal.
“Sources tell me the Giants are ready, they’re putting their whole heart and finances into landing either Shohei Ohtani or Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the coming weeks,” Morosi said.
It remains to be seen whether Ohtani or Yamamoto, the Giants’ Japanese pitching target, will end up in San Francisco. But Giants fans may have their answer in the coming days.
